What does "syphilis negative" mean?
A negative test for trachoma means that the individual does not have the disease. Trachoma is a chronic infectious disease of the conjunctiva of the eye surface, caused by Chlamydia trachomatis infection. The acute phase of trachoma can manifest as redness, swelling, tearing, increased discharge, and a foreign body sensation in the eyes. If not well-controlled, trachoma can become chronic over time. Due to damage to the corneal epithelium from trachoma, prolonged duration can lead to decreased vision and even blindness. Treatment of trachoma mainly involves the local and systemic use of antibiotics. Local medications primarily include 0.1% rifampicin, 0.5% tetracycline, and sulfonamide eye drops, while systemic medications may include oral doxycycline and other tetracyclines. The treatment course for trachoma is relatively long, generally requiring medication for at least six weeks or more. (Please follow medical advice from a doctor for specific medications.)
Do you need to wear glasses for refractive errors?
First, it should be clarified that true refractive errors must be corrected with glasses. Refractive errors in clinical practice are divided into pseudo-refractive errors and true refractive errors. Pseudo-refractive errors generally occur in preschool children and children in the early years of school. When a decline in vision occurs, parents should take their children to the hospital for a medical optometry examination. After pupil dilation, a comprehensive optometry examination can determine whether the child has a pseudo-refractive error or a true refractive error. If it is a pseudo-refractive error, it can be improved through more rest, more outdoor activities, and various physiotherapy methods to alleviate visual fatigue, thereby improving vision. However, once it is diagnosed as a true refractive error, appropriate strength glasses should be promptly prescribed for the child to correct the vision. Because if true refractive errors are not corrected, visual fatigue will persist and continue to worsen, which will cause the child's prescription to continuously increase.

Trichiasis should be treated by an ophthalmologist. Trichiasis is an eye condition caused by the tension factors of the eyelid's soft tissue, leading to the eyelashes attaching to or poking the surface of the eyeball, causing discomfort in the eyes. Depending on the severity of the condition, the following treatments can generally be chosen: First, if it is just a few lashes, electrolysis can be performed on these eyelashes. Electrolysis can destroy the few lashes stimulating the eyeball, preventing their regrowth and thereby relieving trichiasis. Second, if there are a larger number of lashes involved, trichiasis correction surgery should be chosen, which is a surgical treatment. After the surgery, the eyelashes can be made to turn outward, no longer irritating the eyeball.
Refractive amblyopia can be cured
Refractive amblyopia, most cases can be cured. Most refractive amblyopia is associated with hyperopia, accompanied by amblyopia, caused by abnormal fetal development in the womb, and the specific cause is unknown. If amblyopia in children can be detected between the ages of three to five and treated in a timely manner, most cases can be cured with a good prognosis. Treatment before the age of eight has better outcomes; treatment between 8-12 years old is less effective; there is no way to treat after age 12. The principle of treating amblyopic children is based on medical optometric prescription combined with effective amblyopia training, which primarily includes threading beads, puzzles, or using amblyopia treatment devices, etc. After amblyopia is cured, follow-up is required for three years to prevent recurrence.
Can trichiasis be treated without surgery?
Whether surgery is needed for inverted eyelashes depends on the specific situation. If it is just one or a few eyelashes irritating the eyeball and the symptoms are not significant, you can choose the local electrolysis method to destroy the hair follicles of these eyelashes, preventing their regrowth. This will not affect the appearance and can fundamentally solve the problem. However, if there are a large number of inverted eyelashes causing significant irritation to the eyeball, surgery is recommended for correction. Without surgery, long-term irritation from the eyelashes could cause irreversible damage to the eye, such as scarring or ulcers on the cornea, which could eventually affect vision. Some patients might intermittently pull out the eyelashes, but this is not advisable, as the eyelashes will grow back.
Will astigmatism cause the pupils to enlarge?
Astigmatism of the eye is a type of refractive error caused by an uneven curvature of the cornea's surface, resulting in different refractive powers along different axes. Once astigmatism occurs, particularly with a high degree of astigmatism, there can be a noticeable decrease in vision, distortion in sight, or in severe cases, significant eye fatigue. However, it generally does not lead to pupil dilation. Pupil dilation is caused by the paralysis of the ciliary muscle due to internal and external factors, resulting in enlarged pupils. Therefore, if symptoms of astigmatism appear, it is advisable to visit a hospital promptly for accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment.
Will trichiasis cause the eyes to tear?
Trichiasis can cause the eyes to tear. Patients with trichiasis exhibit significant tearing symptoms because the cornea is rich in nerve endings and is very sensitive to foreign stimuli. In trichiasis, the eyelashes poke and irritate the cornea, thus stimulating the nerve endings and causing reflex tearing. Therefore, patients with trichiasis should be treated promptly to avoid irreversible damage to the cornea, such as scars or corneal ulcers. For minor trichiasis, local electrolysis can be used to destroy the hair follicles so they no longer grow; for more severe cases, it is recommended to visit a hospital for surgical correction of the trichiasis.

There are several clinical manifestations of refractive errors, such as myopia, hyperopia, or astigmatism, all of which fall under the category of refractive errors. The normal adult eye axis is approximately 24mm, and patients with refractive errors have eye axis measurements that are greater or less than this value, which prevents images from being clearly presented on the retina. In patients with myopia, images generally appear in front of the retina, while in patients with hyperopia, images typically appear behind the retina. Various types of refractive errors can be corrected by wearing glasses to improve vision, enabling patients to see clearly. Additionally, patients with myopia and astigmatism can also consider laser surgery treatment after reaching adulthood.
How to protect eyes with astigmatism
Some patients have congenital astigmatism, while most of the patients have acquired astigmatism. The occurrence of astigmatism is mostly due to improper sitting posture. It is caused by looking at objects from an inclined angle rather than directly from the eyes' proper axis. Especially lying down while reading or using smartphones can easily lead to an increase in astigmatism. If astigmatism is not corrected, it can easily worsen eye fatigue, thereby inducing a further increase in the degree of vision problems. In daily life, it is important to correct poor sitting postures and avoid situations such as lying down while reading or using smartphones. Engage more in outdoor activities, and limit reading sessions to no more than half an hour at a time. Consuming more vitamins A, D, C, E, and lutein in the diet can also help in preventing astigmatism.
Can eye fatigue cause nearsightedness?
Eye fatigue can exacerbate myopia, and it is an important factor in worsening nearsightedness. When the eyes look into the distance, they are in a completely relaxed state, which does not cause or worsen myopia. Myopia occurs due to near-distance eye activities. Prolonged close-distance eye activities and working too closely can lead to chronic fatigue in the external eye muscles. When this happens, the eye axis is stretched and, over time, cannot fully return to its original state, resulting in the onset or worsening of myopia. Therefore, during daily eye use, it is essential to avoid excessive duration and too close distances to prevent fatigue and thus avoid worsening myopia.
