Hand, foot, and mouth disease is caused by an intestinal virus, mainly manifested in children as blisters on the hands, feet, mouth, and buttocks. Some cases may involve fever, while others may have no fever or only mild, low-grade fever. Oral and pharyngeal blisters are quite common, causing oral pain and discomfort. Many children who contract hand, foot, and mouth disease experience a decrease in appetite, which is related to oral and pharyngeal blisters causing pain that affects swallowing and eating.

Hand, foot, and mouth disease is an infectious disease caused by enterovirus infection. There are more than 20 common types of enteroviruses, with Coxsackievirus A16 and Enterovirus 71 being the most common. The main clinical symptoms include fever, mouth pain, loss of appetite, and small blisters or ulcers on the hands, feet, and mouth. Most affected children can heal on their own in about a week, so ordinary cases can be isolated for about a week until all the rashes have crusted over and disappeared. However, for severe cases, the isolation period should be extended appropriately, possibly lasting 10-14 days, or even longer.
Phenylketonuria lacks what enzyme?
Phenylketonuria is an autosomal recessive genetic disorder primarily caused by mutations in the phenylalanine hydroxylase gene. This leads to reduced activity of phenylalanine hydroxylase, accumulation of phenylalanine and its metabolites in the body, and the onset of the disease. Phenylketonuria is the most common congenital amino acid metabolism disorder. Clinically, it is mainly characterized by intellectual developmental delays, light skin and hair pigmentation, and a mousey urine odor. The incidence of this disease varies by ethnicity and region. In China, the incidence is approximately 1 in 11,000.
What medicine should a child take for vomiting and a cold?
When a child has a cold and shows symptoms of vomiting, it is likely due to acute gastrointestinal symptoms. In this case, oral medications to protect the stomach, such as bifidobacterium, cimetidine, omeprazole, or other antiemetic drugs can be administered. Additionally, it is important to check if there are symptoms of tonsillitis or throat inflammation, as inflammation of the tonsils or throat can stimulate the gag reflex and also cause reflex vomiting. In this situation, the first step should be to control the symptoms of the throat and tonsils, which will gradually improve the vomiting. Also, pay attention to the child's body temperature and their mental responses.
Symptoms of baby anemia
The earliest symptoms of anemia in infants might include dizziness, fatigue, and tiredness. The most common and notable sign is a pale complexion. The severity of the symptoms depends on the speed and degree of anemia, as well as the body's compensatory abilities. Other possible symptoms include tinnitus, headache, insomnia, frequent dreaming, memory decline, and lack of concentration. Additionally, there can be shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, palpitations, and some might experience digestive issues such as bloating and reduced appetite, among other manifestations.
Does hand, foot and mouth disease itch?
Hand, foot, and mouth disease is a condition caused by an intestinal virus, primarily characterized by herpes on the hands, feet, oral cavity, and buttocks. Some affected individuals may experience fever, ranging from low to moderate, while others may have high fever, and still others may not have any fever at all. The herpes is neither painful nor itchy, so there is no need for special treatment or handling of the herpes, just symptomatic treatment and timely fever reduction when necessary. For common cases, it is appropriate to orally administer some antiviral medications, and at the same time, take some traditional Chinese medicine that clears heat and detoxifies, while maintaining clean and hygienic skin.
What are the treatment methods for infectious diarrhea in children?
For infectious diarrhea in children, it is first important to determine if the cause is viral or bacterial. In general, rehydration should be provided first to prevent dehydration; oral rehydration salts are commonly used to prevent dehydration and replenish electrolytes. Additionally, probiotics can be given to regulate the gut flora, commonly including bifidobacteria. Another option is to administer smectite powder to protect the gastrointestinal mucosa. It is also appropriate to supplement zinc and folic acid to promote the repair of the gastrointestinal mucosa. If a bacterial infection is suspected, sensitive antibiotics can be administered, commonly cephalosporins or penicillins for anti-infection treatment. If a viral infection is considered to be causing the diarrhea, some antiviral medications can be added to the treatment. Pay attention to the baby’s mental response and urination situation.
Can children's epilepsy be effectively treated?
Can childhood epilepsy be cured? Firstly, it depends on the type of epilepsy. If the symptoms are not very severe, the frequency of convulsions is low, and comprehensive exams such as brain MRI and genetic testing show no problems, and the child's intellectual development is normal, then this type of epilepsy might be curable. Generally, after 2 to 3 years of effective antiepileptic drug treatment and then gradually discontinuing the medication if there are no further seizures, the condition can usually be controlled. However, some types of epilepsy are associated with underlying diseases, such as cerebral palsy, inherent metabolic genetic disorders, poor brain development, or organic brain lesions. The treatment outcomes for these types of epilepsy are not good, and they are generally difficult to control.

In cases where a viral infection is suspected, antiviral medications can be taken orally, and some traditional Chinese medicines that reduce throat swelling, clear heat, and detoxify can also be used; there are many varieties. If a bacterial infection is suspected, antibiotics such as cefuroxime and cefaclor should be used. It is also important to monitor body temperature and provide timely fever reduction treatment if fever is present. Medication must be administered under the guidance of a doctor.
