Can laryngitis cause a fever?
Patients with laryngitis may experience fever. Laryngitis is caused by exposure to cold, consumption of spicy and irritating food, smoking, drinking, and other external factors, leading to edema and congestion of the laryngeal mucosa. The main symptoms in patients include hoarseness, sore throat, foreign body sensation, cough, and fever. Therefore, patients may develop fever when they contract laryngitis due to infections and inflammation. The primary treatment methods for laryngitis patients include antibiotics, anti-inflammatory drugs, steroids, and treatments to reduce swelling. By choosing sensitive antibiotics, the symptoms of laryngitis can be quickly alleviated, improving hoarseness and fever among other related conditions. Note: Medications should be used under the guidance of a doctor.
The difference between vocal cord nodules and polyps
Vocal cord nodules are often bilateral symmetrical tiny nodules, while vocal cord polyps can be unilateral or bilateral. Vocal cord nodules commonly affect teachers, singers, orators, and other professions that involve excessive use of the voice. Vocal cord polyps, however, can be seen in all kinds of people. For vocal cord nodules, treatment usually begins with medication. If medication is ineffective, surgical treatment may be considered. For patients with vocal cord polyps, the most common treatment method is surgical removal of the polyps. Post-surgery, it is crucial to protect the voice and maintain silence to aid recovery. Generally, both vocal cord nodules and polyps can be cured.
Is reflux esophagitis related to nasal discharge reflux?
Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and nasal discharge reflux are usually not directly related. GERD is caused by excessive gastric acid secretion due to chronic gastritis and gastric ulcers in patients, which refluxes into the esophagus and throat, causing reflux esophagitis. Nasal discharge reflux, on the other hand, is mainly related to chronic sinusitis in patients, both of which can cause inflammation and discomfort in the patient's throat. For patients with GERD, the main treatment involves controlling acid suppression through medication. Common medications include proton pump inhibitors and comprehensive gastric acid relaxants. Additionally, for patients experiencing nasal discharge reflux, diagnosis is primarily through nasal endoscopy and paranasal sinus CT scan. For patients with sinusitis, treatment usually requires medications and surgery to open the sinus passages to improve symptoms and achieve healing.
Can Meniere's disease be fatal?
Meniere's disease is not life-threatening. Also known as Meniere's disease, it is caused by fluid accumulation in the inner ear labyrinth, leading to symptoms such as tinnitus, fluctuating hearing loss, revolving vision, and vertigo. When Meniere's disease occurs, we should first perform comprehensive examinations like cranial MRI and high-resolution CT of the temporal bone to confirm the diagnosis. Treatment primarily involves vasodilators, nerve nutrition, hormones, and vestibular suppressants to improve local symptoms. Additionally, during an episode, it is advisable to rest in a supine position, ensure adequate rest, avoid staying up late, and maintain a light diet to alleviate symptoms.
What is sinusitis?
Sinusitis is a nonspecific inflammation of the sinus mucosa, a common and frequently occurring illness. Its onset is often due to diseases of the nasal cavity such as nasal polyps, allergic rhinitis, deviated nasal septum, hypertrophy of the nasal turbinates, or nasal cavity tumors that block the sinus ostia, all of which can lead to sinusitis. Patients with sinusitis typically experience symptoms such as nasal congestion, purulent nasal discharge, and headaches. Usually, a diagnosis requires sinus CT scans, either plain or enhanced, to confirm the occurrence of sinusitis. Once diagnosed, most cases of sinusitis can be alleviated with oral medication. However, a small number of patients who are difficult to cure may need surgery to open the sinus ostia and maintain drainage, thus curing the sinusitis.
